Day 23/50 • "What this painting means to me Wednesday"

I've done paintings of vintage photos in some form or another since college. The people in those photographs always bring about a sense of curiosity in me. I wonder what their story is, of course, but I wonder more how I can translate what I see in the photo onto canvas in a way that it evokes even more questions from the viewer.

I feel that when we are inspired to look at these images of other people and consider them enough to ask questions about who they are, we are training ourselves to wonder the same about everyone around us. Hopefully this strengthens our ability to truly see one another. And in seeing, perhaps we can grace each other with the sense of humanity we all deserve.
