I came across this man stretching on some bars before his bike ride, and he continued his exercise almost the entire time we talked. Lasting around fifteen minutes, this was one of the shorter interviews in the collection. Much of the time was filled with him breathing with intention and sort of whispering to himself. He didn’t mind talking to me, but he never stopped what he was doing or stepped outside of himself. ​
 
I learned he was going through chemotherapy, and my guess is he stays inward for balance and safety. His answers reflected an intense focus on the moment. When I asked him what he was looking forward to in the next 48 hours, he seemed genuinely bewildered and challenged to see that far into the future. “Forty-eight hours? That’s so far away.”
