About Prentiss Douthit
My name is Prentiss Douthit. I'm a visual artist and occasional writer currently living in my hometown in north Alabama. Primarily focused on figure painting -- I love people and painting people. Their stories. Their light. And, if I’m lucky, capturing moments that remind us of our shared humanity.
I moved from Austin, Texas to my hometown of Decatur, Alabama in January of 2023. The impact this place had on me as a child and now as a returning adult has been significant. I’ve enjoyed expanding my subject matter beyond figurative work and exploring painting the landscape around me.
I have published two books of my work paired with autobiographical stories. I suspect there are plenty more stories to share about my time in Alabama. Someday. Until then, I am grateful to be able to share the things I see and use painting and creating as a way to connect with others, build community, and find a little light on the walls.
